What is a Community Health Center?
The Community Health Center programs were created in 1964 under the administration of President Lyndon Johnson as a special Economic Opportunity Act which promised to open Neighborhood Health Centers for underserved people. This would ensure the sustainability of primary care services in underserved areas across the United States. Following an extensive application process, with deep involvement by our community Board of Directors, Winding Waters earned the status of a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in 2015. As a result, we have been able to expand our services and meet the primary care needs of our community across Wallowa County!
